Local merchant Henry L. Thayer had a dream to build a hotel and in 1843, his plans of creating a hotel near his own shop begin to form. Originally called "Thayers White Mountain Hotel" the elegant little establishment welcomed guests for years, with an increased success in 1852 due to the newly added railroads in Littleton. Thayer even owned and operated stagecoaches to transport guests from the hotel to the train station, along with tours of the local area. He was even lovingly called "Dad" by many guests who stayed at the hotel, and the hotel itself was referred to as "Thayers" by its regulars. The hotel continued with that label and later changed its name to "Thayers Inn" in 1984. Today, Thayers Inn host guests looking for a little reprieve in the White Mountains!
