The Red Dog Bed & Breakfast was built in 1879 for Jacob Metzger, who brought his barbering skills from Germany to the lumbermen of early Saugatuck. Metzger had the small building that housed his barbershop moved from Butler Street and attached it to his new home. For Ninety-Nine Years, three generations of his family lived and worked on Mason Street.
