Discover the magic of the White Mountain National Forest from Evans Notch Lodge and Cabins. If you cherish the scent of fresh air and delight in the melody of mountain streams, you'll find this a peaceful and exhilarating respite from today's hectic pace! The Lodge provides a warm, rustic setting for rest and relaxation in any season, with trophy trout fishing, superior bike routes, hiking, swimming and canoeing only steps from your door!
The resort was first established in 1938 as a stopping point on one of the nation's first auto roads through the White Mountain National Forest. Route 113 was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, and by 1936 the "wheel road" from Cold River valley to Gilead and the Androscoggin river valley was finally completed. Motorists came to see some of the most impressive views in the White Mountains: giant cliffs, velvety tops of virgin soft woods, and remarkable rock formations.
The Lodge lies between the Wild River and the Andorscoggin River, and is literally at the gateway to the White Mountain National Forest, with hiking trails, swimming holes, spectacular views, lakes, and the Mt. Washington Auto Road only minutes away.
