Acquired in the early 1900s by the multimillionaire Sir Harry Oakes, the resort was once his lavish home accompanied by the 1913-era Willows mansion. The entire property survived a wildfire that destroyed much of Bar Harbor in 1947, and today stands as a refurbished celebration of history.
