El Monte is an ecotourism operation that consists of three wooden cabins and a central lodge for dining and socializing. We have designed El Monte with sustainability in mind and use Permaculture as a general guideline while organically producing many of our own fruits and vegetables. Our guests stay in spacious, two-story A-frame cabins, with a large open area on the first floor, and a bedroom, bath and small loft upstairs, with one double and two single beds. We never mix groups, each cabin is designed for one to four people. The second floor has large glass windows that can be closed and still allow you a great view of the Rio Mindo and surrounding forest. The cabins are hand-made; no power tools were used in the construction. The roofs are made of renewable palm leaves (thatch). Most of the building materials were obtained from the Mindo area.
