Vail Snow Daze: Launching Vail Into Winter With Style

If you're a fan of skiing or any outdoor winter sports, Vail is a destination that you must visit at least once. Here in the heart of Colorado, you’ll find a beautiful community that loves visitors and is centered around celebrating the outdoors during the winter season. For almost a decade, Vail Snow Daze has been launching the Vail community into its extremely busy winter season. This event is held in the heart of Vail at Solaris and is free to attend. The three-day festival fills the air of Downtown Vail with great music and conversation. It’s the perfect way to end a day that is filled with hitting the slopes, unique shopping opportunities, and the wide range of entertainment options that Vail has to offer.

Each night of Vail Snow Daze has a different headliner, giving you a unique experience for each night of the festival. In addition to the music, there are apres parties (social activities after a day of skiing) where you’ll be able to socialize with locals and other visitors. Don't forget to dress warm because this is an outdoor concert and the weather in Vail during December can get cold. Come and ring in the winter season with Vail’s inviting and friendly community at Vail Snow Daze. We interviewed Sally Gunter, the Senior Communications Manager of Vail Mountain, about Vail Snow Daze.

RAL: Tell me about Vail Snow Daze and who attends.

SG: Snow Daze is in its ninth year. It’s a popular early-season event, especially because of the free concerts. The demographic is a mix of young and old, families and singles, locals and destination guests.

RAL: What makes the event unique?

SG: Snow Daze has an electric atmosphere, and the big headliner acts we schedule draw a lot of attention. Enjoy fresh tracks of snow by day and free beats by night. This year, Big Head Todd and the Monsters and JJ Grey & Mofro take the stage for two nights of amazing music. Aside from the tunes, an expo village will take place at the base of Gondola One in Vail Village all three days, and après parties offer a great transition from the slopes to the music. It is a terrific kick-off to the season.

RAL: Take me through a typical day at the event.

SG: For activities, you’ll find skiing/riding on the mountain and an expo village at the base of Gondola One in Vail Village during the day. At night there are après parties around town and free live music in the heart of Vail. We have numerous dining options including on-mountain dining at The 10th, Bistro Fourteen, or Game Creek. All of the restaurants are different, yet have amazing delicacies you are sure to enjoy. In town, there are a plethora of options from fast-casual, laid back to five-star fine dining. The energy in town is contagious. There is an overall excitement that abounds from the mountain being open, the snow falling, and the free live music.

RAL: What can attendees expect to find for local lodging and is there one spot people seem to flock to?

SG: Vail offers world class lodging to fit every taste and budget. Early-season savings are the best way to celebrate the start of winter. With discounts up to 40% off lodging on stays between Opening Day on Nov. 20 through Dec. 24, this offer must be booked by Nov. 20. The Lodge at Vail was the first hotel in town and is a favorite in the area. It’s iconic unique charm and sophistication appease almost any type of traveler. Not to mention it’s located just steps from Gondola One in Vail Village. A few other lodging options to consider include Vail Mountain Lodge & Spa, Vail’s Mountain Haus, and The Galatyn Lodge.

RAL: What does Vail Snow Daze mean to the community?

SG: The event is a great catalyst to the season, building momentum in the community and starting the influx of guests during the winter season. It signifies the start of and sets the tone for the busy season. The local business community warmly welcomes attendees, as lodging is nearly full while restaurants and shops are bustling. This year Vail Veterans Program is our local non-profit charity that the event will benefit.
