Unique Lighthouse Living on the Pagan River

When you’re planning a vacation, you’re undoubtedly looking for something that will be memorable. A place where you feel at home but also where there’s plenty to do, whether that’s onsite or off. You want comfort and adventure, relaxation but excitement. In the charming river-port town of Smithfield, Virginia, you will find just that—and so much more.

Smithfield Station rests on the banks of the Pagan River and welcomes travelers of all kinds to step away from the hustle-bustle and discover the historic charm of this quaint Virginia destination. And the best way to do that is with a stay at The Light at Smithfield Station.

Modeled after the lighthouse at Hooper’s Straight on Maryland’s upper Chesapeake Bay, The Light offers you with the completely unique experience of lighthouse-living. The Light was built in 1994 and has quickly become not only an icon of Smithfield Station, but also of Smithfield itself. The beautiful reproduction required many permits and the concept had to be reviewed by 32 separate state and federal agencies before its approval. Smithfield Station owner Ron Pack visited the Hooper’s Straight Light multiple times during the construction of The Light to take measurements and pictures to ensure that the reproduction was as authentic as possible.

The long process was worth it. The Light offers an experience unlike any other. "The Light at Smithfield is an exact replica of a working Chesapeake Bay Style Lighthouse and boasts two spacious suites with panoramic views of the Pagan River,” said President Randy Pack. “It's a completely unique experience, and one out of town guests frequently comment on wishing they knew about sooner."

When you stay at The Light, you have the option of two unique suites, one on each level of the two-story property. The Captain Todd Executive Suite is on the bottom level of the lighthouse. Complete with a king-sized Murphy bed, large kitchenette, cozy living space with gas fireplace, and a beautiful bathroom with large tiled shower, the suite is sure to make you feel a little like royalty. The wraparound porch looks right out over the sparkling waters of the Pagan River and marina and offers you a place to simply unwind and indulge in life’s simple pleasures.

On the upper level is the Captain Sinclair Suite. This beautiful accommodation welcomes you to enjoy a relaxing retreat with stunning views. A king-sized bed, fireplace, and flat-screen television are included, along with a quaint kitchenette and built-in nautical dining table. You can unwind in your Jacuzzi tub and indulge in upgraded bath amenities. To top it all off, the Sinclair Suite’s upper level location means you can climb up the spiral staircase to the scenic lighthouse overlook. Bask in the panoramic views of the River and surrounding marshlands.

"The town of Smithfield, Virginia is off the beaten path and allows for guests to completely unplug, move at a slower pace and enjoy small town hospitality,” said Pack. “The peaceful surroundings on the river, watching the sun set and rise, the wildlife and water currents, it's truly something only the town of Smithfield and The Light can provide.”

So when it comes to planning your next vacation, don’t hesitate and book at stay at The Light. The unique experience is completely unparalleled and the beautiful riverfront setting will take your breath away. Whether you spend your time cruising on the river, relaxing at the onsite pool, wandering the historic streets of Smithfield, or enjoying a delicious meal at Smithfield’s award-winning restaurant, you are in for what is most definitely a memorable retreat.
