You open the door to your bed and breakfast room and look inside. You’re greeted by a cozy nook decorated with antique furnishings, outdated amenities, and countless doilies. More often than not, this is the traditional inn experience. But there’s a new breed of bed and breakfast in Egg Harbor, Wisconsin.
Proving that not all bed and breakfasts are created equal, The Cornerstone Suites offers a unique Door County experience. Spacious suites, modern amenities, and chic interiors set this retreat apart from your average hotel or inn.
A 100-year-old country barn that has been converted to four private suites, this Midwest destination is both historic and current. Each suite is comprised of multiple rooms and levels with more than 1,000 square feet of personal living space, twice as much as most bed and breakfasts. And no suite is the same, as each room’s individuality was personally crafted by the owners.
“The construction of our barn was a labor of love,” Cornerstone Suites owner Darrel Lautenbach said. “It was a vision my family and I made a reality.”
The first piece of the puzzle, the Cornerstone Suite, is a two-bedroom marvel that spans three levels within the barn and silo. Featuring its own private entrance, this sprawling space can accommodate from two to four guests and features the “sitting room” at the top of the silo, a cozy perch that boasts a 360-degree view of the property and its own coffee bar.
Curl up in the aptly named Garden Suite, a three-level romantic rendezvous that resembles a Victorian home. Adorned with natural skylights and an elegant master bedroom, this suite truly offers the royal treatment. Cozy up on the private stargazing deck, which is nestled amidst the roofline of the barn, and gaze out at the blossoming vineyards as you sip on your morning coffee.
The newest addition, the Sweet Clover Suite, is a model of craftsmanship, as it features artisanal iron railings, hardwood floors, hand-hewn beams, and vaulted ceilings. Grab a snack in the first floor’s fully equipped kitchen and relax upstairs with a gas fireplace, a whirlpool tub, and a wraparound deck.
Last but certainly not least is the Mettie Rose Suite, a two-level rustic room that features wood floors, vaulted ceilings, and expansive windows to give it a cabin feel. Along with its organic decor, the suite includes a covered private balcony and a whirlpool room that overlooks 200 acres of breathtaking Door County landscape.
A quartet of spacious suites, outstanding amenities, and stylish decor make The Cornerstone Suites a Door County original.
