The long standing capital of Wisconsin, Madison is a culturally rich, historical and activity packed destination, perfect for your next big vacation. This unique city embraces both its cosmopolitan feel and small town roots, combining them into an experience you won't forget.

Named after former President James Madison, the city was founded in 1836, when it was more paperwork than actual buildings and residents. Although it was named the capital the year before it was founded, people didn't move here in large numbers until 20 years later. Currently, Madison is a hub for activity and culture. The city has nearly 250,000 residents and features a wide assortment of activities and attractions.

RAL: Tell me a little bit about the event.

MK: This will be the second year of Festival Foods Shake the Lake. However, the event has been around in some fashion for many years. For many years Rhythm and Booms was held at Warner Park on the northside of Madison. The event moved to the current downtown location in 2014. Following that event, the city of Madison had plans to discontinue the event before Big Top Baseball and Festival Foods partnered to make the event sustainable beginning in 2015.

Last year’s event drew over 70,000 people. We are expecting an even larger crowd this year.

Festival Foods Shake the Lake is designed so that people of all ages and stages can enjoy a great night. There will be a Kids Zone with inflatables and games for children. All entertainment will be family-friendly. With two stages of music, we hope there is something for everyone.

RAL: What makes this event unique?

MK: Festival Foods Shake the Lake is all about showcasing the unique characteristics that make Madison great. Last year The Human Cannonball launched himself into Lake Monona, the first time he’s ever launched into water. He will repeat this feat in 2016. Entertainment also includes the Mad Rollin’ Dolls, the UW Marching Band, and local opening acts on both stages. Another signature of Madison is the unique food offerings available and Festival Foods Shake the Lake will feature many different food carts.

The Festival Foods fireworks show is the largest fireworks display in the state of Wisconsin.

Launched from barges on Lake Monona and choreographed to a custom soundtrack, this show is one-of- a-kind.

MK: Festival Foods Shake the Lake is first and foremost a community event and is meant to bring the community of Madison and the state as a whole together to celebrate.

increase in business.
