Savor Maryland Food, Wine, and Tribute Band Festival: Maryland's Top New Event

Howard County, Maryland, is a prime getaway destination tucked between Baltimore and Washington D.C. There’s something for everyone in this unique part of the state, whether you're a foodie, patron of the arts, or event seeker.

There is an assortment of eating establishments that will impress the most seasoned restaurant enthusiasts in Howard County. The Iron Bridge Wine Company was recognized by the Baltimore Sun for having the best restaurant ambiance in the county. This unique establishment features delicious wines and great small plate entrees. The White Oak Tavern was ranked the top restaurant in the county by Howard Magazine in 2015, and features an impressive menu of handcrafted beer and food.

You’ll also find an assortment of different art venues in Howard County, crossing a variety of disciplines. Fans of the visual arts must check out the Columbia Art Center. Since 1983, this institution has been displaying beautiful exhibitions and providing educational art classes. If the performing arts are more your style, a visit to the Horowitz Visual Arts and Performance Center is recommended. Here you’ll find a unique mix of student and professional performances as well as a number of art displays. They have three venues for watching live performances and you’ll find great productions scheduled throughout the year.

A great way to get to know the area is through it’s community events. The Maryland Food, Wine, and Tribute Band Festival is entering its first year and looking to make a big impression on the city of West Friendship and Howard County. This is a family friendly gathering, but the entertainment and wine tasting are catered to the adult crowd. You’ll encounter a selection of some of the finest food and wine from the state of Maryland. Add to that one of the best lineups of tribute bands that can be found anywhere and you get this one-of-a-kind event. Turn your next vacation all the way up to 11 and stop by the Savor Maryland Food, Wine, and Tribute Band Festival. We got the chance to interview Brett Murray, representative for the event, to talk about this fun food and wine experience.

RAL: Tell me a little bit about the event.

BM: This is the very first year of Savor Maryland Food, Wine, and Tribute Band Festival! We are excited to bring the event to West Friendship and the Howard County Fairgrounds. This is the largest event of its type for food, fun, and entertainment.

RAL: How long has the event been running?

BM: We have been doing events for seven years. This is the first in West Friendship.

RAL: How many annual participants do you draw?

BM: This year we are expecting around 10,000 people in attendance.

RAL: What is the typical demographic makeup of the event? Children? Families? Couples?

BM: The event is family friendly, but the entertainment is old school and definitely targeted to adults. We do encourage everyone interested to come down and check it out.

RAL: What makes this event unique?

BM: Having this much food, fun, and music in one area sets us apart from other events in the region. We have a collection of some of the best wineries in the area and they will be serving up complimentary samples. Popular local restaurants will also be on hand serving up a variety of meals and snacks. The entertainment features the best tribute bands in the country, with styles running the spectrum honoring Earth, Wind, and Fire to Led Zeppelin.

RAL: Take me through a day at the event.

BM: Attendees will start by setting up their lawn chairs near the main stage to get the best location to watch six fantastic musical acts. The music sets the tone for the event, and once it gets started people get out of their seats, dance, and socialize.

RAL: What can an attendee expect to find for local lodging?

BM: West Friendship has a variety of lodging options from which to choose. Popular local options include Turf Valley Resort and Conference Center and the Inn at Norwood.

RAL: Does this drive business to your local economy?

BM: In a community of this size, having an event with 10,000 people has a huge effect on the economy. Most businesses will see a boost including lodging, restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores and more.

RAL: Does the event support a special cause in the community?

BM: Yes, we support Concerts for Causes Inc. They give musical instruments to students in underserved communities.

RAL: Why should people come to your event?

BM: This will be a great experience for anyone who attends. The mix of fun activities, combined with the beautiful setting, makes our event special.
