RAL: Tell me a little bit about the event.

NF: Boston Harborfest is a 35-year old tradition that celebrates Boston’s Harbor and history. This will be Conventures, Inc’s first year producing Harborfest, including its newest signature events Taste of Harborfest and Arts at Harborfest. We anticipate several hundred thousand participants throughout the three-day festival. Our programming on Long Wharf is geared for 21+ attendees, and our programming on Columbus Park is geared towards families and children. Our Harborfest partner activities are fun for every age as well!

RAL: What makes this event unique?

NF: Harborfest is unique because it really celebrates the history and harbor of Boston, which are the backbone of the city. We have some signature programmed events that are completely free and open to the public, but we also have hundreds of partner activities happening simultaneously throughout the city over the three-day period.

RAL: Take me through a day at the event.

NF: On friday, we start at Faneuil Hall, with our kickoff cake cutting event that features local elected officals. It’s very fun and we have the largest cake I’ve ever seen. Our signature programming begins that evening at 5 pm on Columbus Park and Long Wharf with very exciting live musical entertainment. Columbus Park will be showing a movie screening of Yankee Doodle Dandy once the sun goes down.

Saturday kicks off our Arts at Harborfest, a fine arts festival curated by Artists Crossing will feature 20 local artisans and live artistic performances throughout the day. In the evening, Long Wharf will host a crew party for our visiting US Navy war ship the USS Mesa Verde with live music. The night will conclude with fireworks in Boston’s Inner Harbor.

Sunday is our culinary event Taste of Harborfest that will feature local restaurants for sampling and vending of their fine culinary creations concluding Harborfest 2017.

RAL: What can an attendee expect to find for local lodging?

NF: We have partnered with local hotels for our host hotel program including Boston Marriott Long Wharf, Boston Harbor Hotel, Boston Park Plaza, and the Intercontinental Hotel.

RAL: What does the event mean to the community?

NF: Harborfest was once a key tourism driver for the city of Boston. So many of our residents and surrounding communities head to the beaches and coast for 4th of July weekend. Thanks to Harborfest, the weekend is incredibly busy for our local hotels, business, and tourism. Harborfest is a registered 501c3 charity that continues to support art and cultural programs funding city-wide events that are free and open to the public including Harborfest and First Night. Since our events are free and open to the public, we rely on private and corporate investments to keep these programs running strong.

RAL: Why should people come to your event?

NF: Harborfest and 4th of July in Boston combine to offer one of the most memorable weekends we have in the city. With hundreds of activities throughout Boston, it's a fantastic time to learn more about our history and maritime culture that is so often overlooked when visiting.
