While the city attracts many visitors thanks to a storied brewing tradition, the art scene has established itself as an additional draw for tourists. The Marcus Center for the Performing Arts features diverse programming and is home to performances by the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Ballet Company, and Florentine Opera Company. Plus, many Broadway shows are featured at this beautiful facility. The city is also home to the Historic Third Ward. Here you’ll find a wide array of different art galleries, studios and demonstrations like THE Fine Art Gallery and Ayzha Fine Arts Gallery & Boutique.

Many travelers enjoy the 11 unique neighbors that comprise Milwaukee, each with its own character and things to do. Bay View is a neighborhood located just south of the downtown area, and is a one-of-a-kind community that’s hip, vibrant, and a night time spot. You’ll find a variety of bars and restaurants here that will leave any foodie or beer enthusiast in awe including Odd Duck and Cafe LuLu. The depth of this neighborhood goes far beyond the bars and eating establishments. The area is also home to The Bay View Historic District, which was established to protect the beautiful homes and buildings built back in the middle of the 19th Century. Don’t miss the opportunity to check out Brinton House and Puddler’s Hall.

ResortsandLodges got the opportunity to speak to Nicole Rouleau, Communications Director for the event, to talk about what people will find.

RAL:  Tell me a little bit about the event.

NR: The Bay View Bash started in 2004. The event is a free, one-day street festival held in Bay View, Wisconsin. It is 100% volunteer-run and all of the proceeds are given back to the community through grants to other nonprofit organizations.

RAL: How many annual participants do you draw and who are they demographically? Children? Families? Couples?

NR: We have anywhere between 25,000 and 40,000 people attend annually. We see families, friends, couples, and singles. Anyone who is interested should join us and check out all the fun.

RAL: What makes this event unique?

NR: It is free and has a little bit of something for everyone. It’s the perfect opportunity for visiting our community, meeting new people, and having a great experience.

RAL: Take me through a day at the event.

NR: There are five stages, over 150 vendors, a children's area, and plenty of other activities. The stages range from world music and local bands to street performers and DJs. On top of that, there’s even a potsticker eating competition.

RAL: What can an attendee expect to find for local lodging?

NR: The Bay View neighborhood is nestled between Downtown Milwaukee and the airport. There are plenty of hotels in the area to be utilized. As for a more special experience, there is a guesthouse in Bay View called The Muse. It is like staying in your own private art gallery.

RAL: What does the event mean to the community?

NR: This event makes a huge difference in our community. Last year, we were able to give away over $15,000 in grants to nine local nonprofits. The money will go toward new uniforms for local little league teams, scholarships, food shelter programs, composting, and so much more. It’s a free event and the last big event before summer is over.

RAL: Why should people come to your event?

NR: Our event is something that would be hard to find anywhere else. There are food vendors, mustache salesmen, breakdancers in the street, bounce houses, beer tents, and bike parking. It’s a really unique smattering of neighborhood collaborating in one place. It's a relaxed and carefree festival that you will remember and enjoy for a long time.
