A Unique Ballooning Event in One of America's Top Vacation Destinations

The Phoenix Metro Area, also known as The Valley of the Sun, is a destination that delivers during every season. Travelers will love the rock formations, ample sunshine, and warm temperatures that have attracted people to the city since the 1930’s. The Valley of the Sun has the accommodations and activities to turn any vacation into an unforgettable escape.

The Arizona Balloon Classic has been go-to event in the Phoenix Metro Area for the past six years. The Classic is popular with all ages and event planners expect at least 15,000 people to attend this three-day ballooning spectacular in 2016. It’s the only hot air balloon racing event in the state and its held on the spacious grounds of the Phoenix Event & Sports Complex.

Patrons will find a wealth of activities at the event. The main draw is the actual Arizona Ballooning Classic, featuring “Hare and Hound” races that launch from the West Valley’s Fear Farm Sports & Entertainment Complex. Desert Glows draws the largest crowd at the event, taking place at dusk during the first two nights of the classic. All the balloons are tethered to the main field of the complex and they fill their balloons and fire their burners in time to overhead music. Hot air balloon rides will be available, so patrons can get a first hand ballooning experience and a unique view of the area's unique geography. The Family Fun Zone has games, activities, and entertainment for the younger crowd. There will also be retail shopping, a marketplace filled with unique vendors, and food vendors selling a variety of meal options.

Locally, the event has made a big impression. The Arizona Balloon Classic helps support local business and increases exposure by featuring a vendor area and marketplace. The event also brings thousands of people into the community where they spend money at local shops, restaurants, hotels, attractions, and more. Charity is a primary goal of the event with a majority of support going to Ryan House, which provides support and pediatric care for medically fragile children and their families.

Accommodations are in ample supply in The Valley of the Sun. Visitors to the area will have no trouble in finding their ideal lodging, whether it’s a golf resort or camping ground. A couple local options include The Wigwam and Hilton Garden Inn Phoenix/Avondale.

We asked the Event Director, Nanette Duncan, why should people come and she said, “It’s a unique visual experience where visitors have up close and personal contact with the balloons and pilots.”
