Highlighting Dayton's Impressive Culinary and Craft Beer Scene

Dayton’s is a destination that is steeped in historical significance while offering visitors a spectrum of current activities. The Birthplace of Aviation (Orville and Wilbur Wright’s hometown) features a host of great places to visit including the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force (world's oldest aviation museum) and home games of the Dayton Dragons (longest home game sellout streak of any professional baseball team) at Fifth Third Field.

AleFeast Dayton presented by Heidelberg Distributing & Dayton City Paper is one of top beer and food pairing events in Dayton, and it's entering its eighth year. The event will take place on February 4th, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at the downtown Masonic Center. Attendees will get the opportunity to sample over 100 craft beers and wines from over 50 producers. Food will be available from some of Dayton's most popular eating establishments, and 12 pairing stations will match the foods up with the perfect beer or wine. All paid entries will get an official AleFeast sampling glass, as well as a detailed sampling and reference guide. Nick Mitchell will perform live music and patrons can buy unique pieces of beer-related memorabilia at a silent auction. AleFeast Dayton works to help the community and will be donating proceeds to the Pink Ribbon Girls and the Dayton Area Rugby Club this year. We got the opportunity to interview Amanda Pond, Co-Owner of the event, to talk about this unique celebration of beer and food.

RAL: Tell me a little bit about the event.

AP: AleFeast Dayton is a premier craft beer and food-pairing event in Dayton, Ohio. Some 50+ breweries are expected to present over 100 beers to a crowd of 600+ during the afternoon salute to craft brewing and the Miami Valley’s local independent restaurants.

RAL: How long has the event been running?

AP: 2017 will be our 8th year for AleFeast Dayton.

RAL: How many annual participants do you draw?

AP: Our attendance to AleFeast is limited to 600 tickets.

RAL: What demographic does your event attract?

AP: The event draws a diverse crowd, with 21 to 45-year-old professionals as the largest demographic. No children or anyone under the age of 21 is allowed into the event.

RAL: What makes this event unique?

AP: Now that we have some incredible local breweries, we're able to work with them and give them a presence at the event along with our local food purveyors to make the event very "Dayton-Centric" which we love. Our goal is to support our local restaurants and breweries, and encourage everyone to try new things and come downtown!

RAL: Take me through a day at the event.

AP: Our event changes year after year as we always look for new and exciting things to draw attendees. Here are a few things you can look forward to at the event:

RAL: What will attendees find for local lodging?

AP: With AleFeast Dayton being a downtown event, hotel accommodations are made easy! It’s just a short ride to the Crown Plaza Hotel, where you can book a room for the night or the weekend. It’s fun and easy to stay downtown and enjoy our local breweries and restaurants while you’re here!

RAL: Is there one place in particular that guests have been flocking to since the event started?

AP: The Oregon District is walking distance from the event and showcases local breweries, bars, restaurants, local shops and more. It's an excellent representation of Dayton! Make sure to check it out!

RAL: Does this drive business to your local economy?

AP: Absolutely! Inside of our mobile app (which can be found on Google Play or the App Store by searching “AleFest Dayton”), you can find a map displaying all of our local breweries to start your downtown beer excursion. After the event, we have a lot of attendees who head down to the Oregon District for dinner and then end their night at the Crown Plaza. Also, if you feel like staying outside of Downtown Dayton, just call a local Uber driver to get you safely to your destination.

RAL: Does the event support a special cause in the community?

AP: In 2017, we’re excited to announce that our featured non-profit organizations/partners will be the Pink Ribbon Girls and the Dayton Area Rugby Club who will receive a portion of the event's proceeds.
