Agri-Country Bluegrass Festival: Casa Grande’s Leading Winter Event

Casa Grande, Arizona, is a beacon for travelers looking for a reprieve from the cold of winter. Only a short 45-minute jaunt south from Phoenix, this friendly and welcoming city boasts a unique environment for visitors and its residents. While this is one of the fastest growing communities in Arizona, they have not lost their small town charm, and they proudly stay connected to their rich history and cultural heritage. You’ll find plenty of activities here that are great for couples, singles, groups, or the entire family. From skydiving to golf, the year-round outdoor activities here are numerous and plentiful. Scenic attractions are another draw to their area, with museums, historical displays, historic buildings, and a series of beautiful public parks that dot that landscape. If your interests lie elsewhere, then take advantage of the multitude of shopping and entertainment options in Casa Grande. Some of the locations include art galleries, restaurants, theaters, boutique shops, outlet malls, and the list goes on and on.

Aside from all the fun things to do in Casa Grande, they also love to gather and celebrate their great winter weather with many fun festivals and events. One festival that has been making waves in the community and far beyond, is the Agri-Country Bluegrass Festival. The festival brings together some of the best bluegrass acts from throughout America, to perform here. The music is constantly playing on two stages (one indoor and one outdoor) and the environment is friendly, warm, and festive. In addition to the music, there is a huge classic auto show, a unique quilt exhibit, and a marketplace filled with various arts and crafts. If you're looking for a warm weather destination with plenty of fun things to do, then Casa Grande and the Agri-Country Bluegrass Festival are for you! ResortsandLodges.com got the opportunity to interview Karen Searle, Executive Director of the Agri-Country Bluegrass Festival, to talk about the event.

RAL: Tell me a little bit about the event.

KS: Our bluegrass festival is fun for the whole family! The event features amazing bluegrass music on two stages (indoor and outdoor), a classic car show on Saturday, tractor pulls, a huge model train display, quilt show, food vendors and great shopping. This year we expect to have about 7,500 people in attendance. The people who attend are typically music lovers, seniors, and families, but everyone is welcome to join us!

RAL: What makes this event unique?

KS: There are many factors that set our festival apart from others. First of all, we have two different stages, one indoor and one outdoor, and both offer a great experience. The live music is constantly playing, giving the festival a special ambiance as well as a fun and festive environment. We have a huge model train display that draws the attention of all ages. Another unique aspect of our festival is the onsite camping and the spontaneous jam sessions that happen around the campsites. It’s a fun and dynamic setting for those who choose to participate!

RAL: Take me through a typical day at the festival.

KS: For activities at the festival, expect to find an abundance of music and bands. They will be playing their great music, which can be heard throughout the festival. On Saturday, we will be hosting an extremely popular classic car show. During last year’s festival, we had over 100 different cars on display for everyone to enjoy. In addition, we will have a vibrant and beautiful quilt display and a tractor pull for those looking for excitement and horsepower this year. If you get hungry, we will have all the traditional festival food including funnel cakes, corn dogs, kettle corn, Italian sausages, and much more.

RAL: What is the overall environment of the festival like.

KS: The environment of the festival is a fun and enjoyable one. We have indoor and outdoor music, activities, displays, and demonstrations that are fun for all ages. The pace of the festival is easy going, friendly and warm. The Pinal Fairgrounds gives the ideal amount of space, so everyone can enjoy the music without excessive crowding.  Parking is free and all the events take place on paved surfaces, making it easy for everyone in attendance to get around.

RAL: What can attendees expect to find for local lodging?

KS: We are known for our camping. People can pay for an RV/camping space, which includes festival admission. Mainstay Suites is our host hotel and they are among a few local hotels that offer great lodging discounts during our festival. Casa Grande is another local option and they also offer sightseeing tours through areas like the Casa Grande Ruins, Picacho Peak, Ostrich Farm and more.

RAL: What does the festival mean to the community?

KS: The festival means tons of family fun for the community. We attract snowbirds and families from all over to our fun and warm community. The extra visitors into the community also drive extra patronage to our local businesses. The festival helps provide a nice boost during a time of year when business can get a little slow.

RAL: Why should people come to the festival?

KS: It’s a great place to come and enjoy great music! Meet up with old friends or make new ones! Seating is provided and you’ll also find a wonderful place to camp and enjoy the unique jam sessions. Car enthusiasts will love the Saturday car show. The huge model train display is enjoyed by train fans and everyone. The Quilt Show is fascinating whether you’re an old hand at quilting or just enjoy amazing craftsmanship.
