A Historic Poconos Mountain Vacation: 70 Years as Part of the Family

On Lake Wallenpaupack near Hawley, Pennsylvania there is a special kind of resort, which unlike most things, has stood the test of time, and only grown better through the years. In fact, this year Ehrhardt's Waterfront Resort, is proudly celebrating its 70th year in business. But for the Ehrhardts, it’s not just about the number of years they’ve been around. It’s about the family legacy that’s been passed for three generations and is now being passed onto a fourth. That legacy, of warm hospitality, genuine friendship, and delicious food is something they're very proud of, and can’t wait to share.

Marjorie and George Ehrhardt originally opened what is now known as Ehrhardt’s Waterfront Resort, in 1943, under the name, The Silver Birches. “We saw an opportunity and had a dream. We made up our minds to make it a reality,” said first generation owner, Marjorie Ehrhardt.

You’d think that after many years of renovation and expansion, like adding Ehrhardt’s Restaurant and the Waterfront Banquet Center, things would have changed. But Marjorie’s dream still affects every part of the daily experience at Ehrhardt’s. And that’s something they work hard for.

"We're going to continue to make improvements to our facility, work closely with our staff and make sure our guests have the type of experience they've come to know and love here," said Eric Ehrhardt, third generation owner.

And you’ll have quite an experience, considering that Ehrhardt’s rests mere steps from the beautiful shores of Lake Wallenpaupack. Every sort of watersport you can imagine, from fishing to swimming and tubing to sailing are all available to enjoy without having to go too far. When you’d rather stay dry and on land, you can explore the local natural beauty at nearby nature preserves, parks, and museums. And to round off four seasons of fun, the resort is located just twenty minutes from some of the best skiing you’ll find on the East Coast.

It’s a welcoming atmosphere with plenty of opportunity for adventure, and it’s only gotten better with age. In fact, while most things start to slow down a bit after 70 years, at Ehrhardt’s, where the fourth generation is up and coming, they feel that their best years are still ahead, which is why they’re so excited to share this milestone with everyone. So maybe it’s time to go on a vacation where you can get away from it all, where excitement and hospitality go hand in hand, and where you’re treated like family. Maybe it’s time to visit Ehrhardt's Waterfront Resort.
